I'm headed to the Motor City tomorrow for the auto show. It's kind of ironic, really. I worked for seven years in the auto industry and never made it there. Now that I work in an entirely different field, I'm going to Detroit for the very first time. I'm planning to swing by the old Packard plant too, just to see it. Needless to say, I'm excited. I'll take lots of pictures!

Assuming you're flying into DTW stop and get lunch at Miller's Bar as you're driving into the city, best burgers I've ever had.

Some must see places.
Lafayette Coney Island : One of the first Coney islands in Detroit. Bitter rivalry between them and the one next door opened by brothers in early 1900's. Lafayette is less commercialized and I think better.
The Henry Ford Museum : If you dont know what it is its amazing. One of the best museums in the country. And they have a specialty exhibit on engines right now. Even if they didnt, they have LeMons winning cars, the JFK assassination Lincoln, the Rosa Parks bus, a Tucker, a Chrylser Turbine car and a ton of non car stuff as well. It is in Dearborn though.
Other stuff too, but those are the main things I want to get across.
Also, Packard Plant is cool but was recently bought and now has security teams there now, Im not sure if they like photographers. And even then there were some stories about urbex photographers getting there cameras jacked about a year and a half ago.

I don't know how often you're in the area, but check out Cutter's if you get a chance. More than a few sources say they're the best burgers around.

I'm jealous! I went in 2006 and 2007 and had a blast. Both times my hotel was in Windsor, which was cool.

I'm serious about the Coney Island. You cant go to Detroit without trying it. Plus, its only a 10 min walk from Cobo, like a minute drive, and its delicious.
Another cool thing to do is the Motown museum, and the DIA if your into art at all.

I know what you mean. I worked 2 years for a corporate casino company headquartered in Memphis with casinos all over the place, yet I did not go to Las Vegas until well after I didn't work for them.
